Behind the Glass
Heal. Transform. Thrive.
The Journey
I was only 23 when my friend was murdered by her boyfriend in the apartment we shared. For more than thirty years, I kept my grief sealed behind glass, convinced I had moved on. Yet the trauma lingered, quietly shaping my relationships, my parenting, my career, and how I coped with life.
At fifty-four, therapy led me to reach behind the glass and face what I had long avoided. A PTSD diagnosis marked the beginning of true healing, as buried emotions—fear, distrust, survivor’s guilt—finally surfaced. Through sobriety, therapy, and courage, I learned that touching the pain I had stored away was the doorway to freedom and transformation.
From unraveling to thriving, my story shows what becomes possible when we confront what we’ve hidden and choose healing.

Why I Share
My Story
When I began exploring what life might look like without alcohol, I devoured every book I could find. Hearing the stories of the women and men who had walked this path before me was deeply comforting. I recognized pieces of myself in their journeys and knew I wasn’t alone. Yet I never found a story that fully reflected my own.
I wanted an example of someone who not only stopped drinking, but also faced the pain of their past and examined the role it played in their alcohol use. Behind the Glass explores the root causes of why I drank and how alcohol kept me from healing and processing the most difficult chapters of my life. My hope is that this story helps anyone carrying similar weight from their past find the healing that brings peace and freedom today.
Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.
